I’m sure you seen Pro golfers take off their gloves off after every shot, why are they doing this? In this article, you will find out.
Golfers take their gloves off to air the gloves to be less sweaty and to let the skin breathe which prevents skin conditions. Having no gloves improves the feel of the club, so most pros will take off a glove when the shot will not result in slippage, for chips, short pitches, and for putting.
Imagine the sweat and grime that would develop if you wore a leather glove in a hot humid place like Florida for four hours on the Golf course! Taking off your glove is a good habit to develop to prevent this bacteria build-up.
I will explain other reasons why the Pros and normal Golfers take their glove off, and why Pros take off their gloves for putting. Read on to find out.

Why Golfers Take Their Glove Off After Every Shot
To Air Out The Glove
Have you ever worn a Golf glove for 4 hours in humid conditions? I don’t recommend you do, as wearing a tight-fitting leather glove in warm weather gets really sweaty real fast, and makes everything super slippery.
The point of a Golf glove is to provide better grip, if your gloves are hot and sweaty this defeats the purpose, the Pros know after thousands of hours playing Golf you need to air out the glove and hand in between shots.

Taking your glove off increases the longevity of Gloves as typically they only last 6 to 10 rounds, the less you wear them the better.
Hand eczema known as hand dermatitis is a common skin condition that affects roughly about 10% of the U.S. population and I guarantee it’s more common in Golfers who don’t air their gloves out.
Many Golfers have played with gloves and suddenly developed rashes on their hands, only after letting their hands breathe in-between shots or going no gloves did the rashes go away.
Even if you live in a colder climate, a tight leather glove is the perfect playground for bacteria to live and fester, airing out your Glove between t-shots as you walk towards your ball is a great practice to have no matter where you are playing.
To Get a Better Grip Of The Club
If your hands are hot and clammy, this makes things very slippery a potential slip on one Golf shot should be devastating to a golfer’s career, it could make the difference between missing the cut or winning an important tournament.
If you swing hard with fast swing speed like a Pro Golfer, the club can slip so a Golfer might remove their glove when taking a shot where they don’t think they will slip, to improve their feel for the club.
Mostly, this will be in and around the green which is why a lot of Golfers putt barehanded, but also for chips, short pitches, and anything that affects the ‘feel’ of the club like a sweaty Glove they want nothing to do with.
For A Mental Trigger
As you become better at Golf, you will understand the game is about creating a perfect system and making that system consistent, keeping the same spine angle, grip pressure, and stance in all of your shots.
You will see when you hit the best short there is a set of events that lead to that ‘money shot’ when you hit the ball perfectly, for Pro Golfers taking off or putting on a Glove is part of that shot routine.
You could use ‘glove on’ as a trigger to know you have to bring your A-game, ‘glove on’ would tell you to chill out and relax, talk with your Golfing buddies as you walk to the ball or the next tee then putting the glove back on when its game time.
Pro golfers will not take off their glove and put it back on EVERY shot, but rather leave the glove on from their tee to their approach shot, and only take it off near the green where the extra fit of ‘finesse’ and feel is needed.

To Prevent Tan Lines
This might seem like a silly reason, but you know what’s more silly? Having one tanned hand and one pale hand that had never seen the light of the sun.
I’m sure you know what a glove tan line looks like, many Golfers in this forum say to take off their Gloves to prevent uneven tan lines.
Depending on how severe your tan line is, it can be a cause of concern. A disease called Golfers Rash whose medical name is exercise-induced vasculitis (EIV) is caused by a combination of hot weather and sunlight exposure caused by extended periods of walking exposed to the sun.
Whether or not you take off their glove between shots, makes sure to wear some sun cream to protect your hands. Get this Neutrogena water-resistant non-greasy sunscreen from Amazon, it’s better for Golf as it’s non-greasy so won’t affect your grip.

Why Do Pro Golfers Take Their Glove Off To Putt?
Golfers take off their gloves to putt to improve the feel of their club. A glove increases your grip on the club, but not when putting, and if your glove is hot and sweaty from playing, this can cause your putter to slip out of your hands, and it’s more comfortable putting gloveless.
Putting is all about feel, but there are studies that show Gofers cannot tell the difference between forged and cast versions of the same Club, but the differences are more psychological.
If a Golfer believes they will Putt better without gloves, they will putt better without gloves. Typically, the putting stroke is taught gloveless so a lot of people are accustomed to putting without gloves.
However, having hot and sweaty gloves after playing Golf for hours is reason enough to move them for putting, no one likes wearing sweaty gloves and this discomfort is enough to ruin your putting stroke.
Although do what’s best for you, working on important variables like green reading and speed control is more important for your Putting and whether or not to wear gloves.
However, one of the best Golfers ever Jack Nicklaus putted with his glove on, and he seemed to do it alright so experiment with what works for you.
